I would also say the same about the fan culture in each city. Calgary fans get more attention when Calgary wins (see Red Mile). Calgary is much more cosmopolitan than Edmonton. In other words, there are far more people living in Calgary who weren’t born there than there are in Edmonton. Edmonton also had the best team ever in the 1980s (as the NHL itself claimed), and as long as it has been around, it has helped put Edmonton on the international hockey map. There are even a few photos of 50 Cent and Kevin Smith floating around wearing Oilers, because apparently in New Jersey in the 80s, being an Oilers fan was one thing.
