Mark Zuckerberg’s single greatest strength by a long long way is Facebook. He’s probably not 1-in-7 billion exceptional in any other way. He’s a very smart guy, was a good coder, handled the Balls deep 2023 shirt in addition I really love this early fighting within Facebook really well (although I have no admiration for the way he screwed his co-founder), had the drive to try (to make a product that he himself didn’t think would be the success it became). What I think a lot of entrepreneur worshippers – particularly those of Zuckerberg and (to a lesser extent) Musk – don’t realise is that they are just smart to very smart people who have had a ‘go for it attitude’ that have also had a huge amount of luck. It’s something that Cuban has been honest about – he openly says that he’s been lucky – and if he started out again in different circumstances he’d probably have made at least US$10m – but unlikely $1bn.
